Cleaning

We had to have the house spotless, museum quality I call it, and the kids almost don't know what to do with it. Zoë slept on the top of her bed "because she didn't want to ruin it".  She finally was about to crawl under the covers last night and looked at me and asked, "are you sure it is okay?" yes I told her, I would be able to remake it in the Morning... "Are you sure?" yes I said, I would even show her how. "you will?!!!" she replied

rough morning

It is totally a Friday morning and I think we all need a weekend.  Zoe has been practicing hard for her last spelling test of the school year (what she hopes is her last spelling test ever).  I have tried all year long to get her to practice.. in the end giving up on pushing it because I so don't want her to hate learning.. its not a burden... but on the 4th to the last one, she finally was self motivated and she and I have tried hard to earn her a "bravo". She currently gets beginning and ending sounds, sometimes missing a middle double consonant, and often switches letters (like writing "nue" instead of "une"... a french sight word which she knows). By the time we got to school she was quite wound up.. getting quieter and quieter.. It was reading day in class and so Finn and I went in, but Zoe was basically in quiet tear mode.. I tried to get her to cry it out, but she was trying to hold herself together.  In the end, she went for a walk with her teacher, and it made my heart ache that she was so upset, but I'm also so proud of her for dealing with it.. she is a fabulous strong willed girl and I'm ferociously proud.

cats hunting

I just had to bury a dead baby bunny that our cat found.. Zoe and Finn found Leo the cat with it.  Boy was Zoe upset... furious... she carried Leo inside trying to find the right prison for him so he couldn't hunt.. then she found the cat carrier and was determined to "take Leo for a walk".  She had an all out cry.  I told her about my theory of cosmic energy.. that the world is finite and that baby bunny's energy was now part of something else.  She seems to have found peace with it.

Zoe the eco-friendly girl

Today as we headed home from my office (Zoe and I), there was a shredded papersack, run over by the lawn mower all over the grass.. Zoe without asking, just started picking it up.. about 100 pieces of it.. she just looked at me and said, "Aren't you going to help?".. I grabbed a sack from the truck and we picked it all up.  I told her how proud I was of her, that she just made the world a little better.  She said, "yeah, I feel pretty good too!"

Zoe the cleaner

Last weekend, I set out for a museum quality clean.. the kitchen counters were completely visible and I started polishing them with anticeptic wipes.. Zoe wanted to help.. I gave her one.. she wanted to do more.. I sent her to the bathroom upstairs while I did the bathroom downstairs.. when I came back, our spotless, super shiny counters were covered with water.. she wanted them extra clean.. so she watered them down.. I was quite at my whits end and asked her to go downstairs.. "But I want to help she said".. so we dried them off again.. polished and clean.. but she was made at me for not appreciating her work.. and ran off to the toy room.. I asked her to either stay in there or go outside..  In the end I said I was proud and very thankful for her cleaning and told her I'd take her out for icecream.
