M:  Zoe, one thing you need to know is that adults do not know everything

... some time later

...

Z: Dad, what is it that you do not know?

competition

everyone who plays with a 5 year old knows that they are starting to enjoy competition.. seeking out games of tag over the 3 year old pursuit of hide and seek... Zoe has learned a lot of crazy games like Toilet tag (others flush you hand to set you free).. graveyard (you lie like a deadman on the floor and others try to make you laugh without touching you).. red light green light.. Mr. Wolf... and even board games like Tic-Tac-Toe, checkers and she is learning chess.  Well, we bought a few of the games for the iPad and have been trying to teach her strategy..mostly her dad... well Zoe found her nitch today... She plays Finn agains Zoe in checkers.. where Zoe is the name of the computer and she is Finn.. that way when Finn looses and Zoe is pronounced winner.. she still celebrates.

I also wanted to add that last week Zoe played chess with one of the ugrads in the lab and their match resulted in a stalemate.

This is why we had two

I had a moment of mama bliss... Telling Bruce I had just seen Zoe setting a chilly Finn up with several blankets, pillows and carrying her guitar ... This all taking place in our backyard, in the shade of a sunny day... Watched her stand over him as he snuggled in.. Playing her guitar and singing...  This is why we had two kids... This is why surviving that first year of having two is all worth it.. For this moment.
