Zoe after one ski lesson
We went for our second trip to Mt. Washington just 4 hours up Vancouver Island... this time Bruce went with us and all of us were healthy enough to play hard. Zoe had her first ski lesson on Saturday and upon completion of her lesson got promoted up a level from Bear to Marmott (I'll add what she passed here later). While she was skiiing, Finn really wanted to try to, so we enrolled him in "Wee Ski", where they teach the parents how to teach the little ones how to ski.. mostly it involves standing in front of him, letting him move on his skis, only correcting the tips.. it is amazing! see Finn in his videos.
Of course, this was not as easy as this.. the event with Finn started with him throwing a full on tantrum and wanting out of his boots.. after copious amounts of sugar (yes, he had skipped breakfast, not because we didn't try...).. and some food, he made two runs and loved it.. but it ended in a screaming fit and him being carried all the way to the lodge over Bruce's shoulder, and we got some more food in him.
Back to Zoe...
After one ski lesson at Mt Washington, Zoe has been promoted one level! It is amazing how fast she learns. However, on Sunday when she was to take her second lesson, she was freaking out over it again, and part of the problem was that she was supposed to go with Asha, but now they would be in different classes.. my concession was that she would do Bears again with Asha, and that worked. (After all, if she doesn't enjoy the process, she will never enjoy the act).
When Bruce picked Zoe up from the lesson, the instructor said that "Zoe is a skiing prodigy"... that they only get a couple of kids a year who pick it up that fast. He said in one week she would easily pass all they had to offer. On Sunday, she had perfected getting up on her own.
We can't wait to make skiing a family thing.. of course that means I'll have to take lessons..!
