Dog walkers

Zoe and Finn, okay, mostly Zoe, have decided that we have to walk the neighbors dogs every day.. We have only missed three times since we started.. They are two shitzus and a Pomeranian
The kids love it.. We walk the dogs up to the park.. About 4 blocks total The we take them back to Beth and Stan, whom the kids have adopted.. It used to be about the dogs, but now I think it is about going to play with Stan.

moving sucks

yep, moving sucks.  We've had our fill of change. But it will be good, it will get better, we keep saying.

Now on the 3rd week of the Zoe and Finn having started school and they are finally not fighting me at every move towards getting out of the house and to school.  They both like school, are making friends.  Finneas is asking for a playdate with Kemper and Juna.  Zoe has had a play date with Maya, and an informal one with Juna and Eli when we met them at the TAMU Tailgate on Saturday.  The kids played in the fountain, of course Finn was thoroughly soaked by the time we left.

But to add to that fun, a week ago, we finally moved into  house and pulled everything out of storage and are trying to find places for it in a new 4 bedroom house.  Its funny how some things fit nicely, got room for others and not room for some.  I'm having a hard time making sense of the kitchen.. it will take iterations.  The art supplies seems to have tripled and I'm not sure how to find homes for it all.  With the help of my friend Carol, we were able to get the kids room pretty well set up, at least at a first pass.  Zoe's room is too pink, and we need to work on it. Walls are pretty blank, but that will be fixed soon.  The tail end of clothes ended up on the floor of the closet and I need to go fix that.

I guess I've been a little stressed.. yesterday Zoe touched Finn's player and spent a bunch of his jewels (not the first time) but I took away her player and told her she couldn't have it until the next day.  I must have yelled, I'm trying to stop..  At night she told me she wanted the "Old Canadian Mommy back".. I feel so bad.  

fire ants

Got to know fire ants this weekend.. they invaded our house.. turns out you have to be really careful when you clean them up, or you get bit, hurts more and longer than a bee sting. Took just one on the knuckle to teach me a lesson  My first attempt at peppermint soap was not enough.. then I used my lovely homemade mosquito repellant (oil, lavender, eucalyptus, lemongrass), and it sort of worked, and then I pulled out the big guns... full on vinegar mop of floors and drowned the crevices they came out of.. that did the trick.   

then we were walking around campus for the first big game at A&M and Finn walked across the grass.. Bruce and I always wondered why people here don't seem to cut across the grass.. unfortunately it was Finn who had to learn that lesson.. he got bit by two ants in his crocs..  a quick wash of water (all I had and Finn was not ok with some pee on his feet which would have probably worked better).. and lots of hydrocortisone.. and he finally stopped crying about 10 minutes later.

What made me write all this down was the pesky little ant on my desk of this 4th floor office at A&M.. they are everywhere.  Although not all of them are fire ants, but I will not be taking any chances.. Fire ants are tiny ones, with a nasty bite.

Re: Zoe's bday

Of course of course we'll skype today.  Claire is at camp until 4:30 - we'll skype as soon as we get home - say 4:45pm PST? 

Did Zoe get Claire's card? Check your mailbox - should be there soon - mailed last friday. Hopefullly that will help. 

Oh dear I am sorry that it is a hard time for her. ( and you). 

I plan to skype you all on Saturday AM - both mom and daugther skype - feeling a little less under the gun as house seems to have sold - waiting for inspection Tuesday.
